March 2026 Tax Deadlines: Tips, Timelines, and Strategic Extensions

Navigating the Mid-Season Rush

We are officially in the thick of tax season here in Rocklin. With the April deadline looming just a month away, the pace at Golden State Tax & Business Services is accelerating. While our team is focused on S-Corporation and individual filings, there are a few specific dates and strategies you need to keep on your radar this month.

March 10: Reporting Tips to Your Employer

For those in the service industry receiving more than $20 in tips during February, the IRS requires you to report this to your employer by March 10 using Form 4070. You can also use a personal statement that includes your signature, SSN, employer details, and the total tips received.

If you are an employer, remember that you are required to withhold FICA and income taxes on these tips. If wages are insufficient to cover this, the uncollected amount must be reported in box 8 of the W-2.

March 16: The Final Call for Appointments

Since March 15 falls on a Sunday this year, Monday, March 16 marks exactly one month until the individual filing deadline. If we don’t have your documents yet, now is the time to reach out.

Don’t wait for perfection. If you are missing a stray 1099 or charitable receipt, don't let that stop you from scheduling. We can build a preliminary return and flag the missing items.

If this made you think, “I should probably ask someone,” that’s us.
A quick conversation can clarify whether this actually applies to you—and whether there’s an opportunity you shouldn’t ignore. General guidance is helpful, but smart decisions come from advice tailored to your numbers. Whether now or later, we’re happy to help you plan ahead.

However, at this stage in the season, we often recommend extensions. An extension isn't a failure; it’s a strategic tool. It allows us to prepare a preliminary return, estimate your payment to minimize interest, and then finalize the return with the accuracy and proactive planning care you deserve, rather than rushing against the clock.

Deadlines on Weekends & Holidays

As a reminder, if a due date falls on a Saturday, Sunday, or legal holiday, the deadline shifts to the next business day.

Disaster Area Extensions

When geographical areas are designated as disaster areas by the federal government, tax deadlines are typically postponed. To check if your area qualifies for relief, please consult the official resources below:
